Evernote screenshotHave you ever noticed how good ideas seem to hit you at the wrong moment? For example, when you are driving or in the middle of nowhere with no pen or any other means to quickly write things down. Believe me, you have to be quick because good ideas tend to disappear as quickly as they appear. This used to happen to me very often, until I discovered Evernote.

Evernote is one of the best tools on the market for capturing information. It can be used for bookmarking, creating lists, e.g. shopping lists, for storing photos, recording audio notes, as a backup system, for saving contact information and a lot of other things. The best part is that you have access to your stuff whenever you want and wherever you want as long as you have a device that is connected to the Internet. In some cases it's not even necessary to be connected.Evernote screenshot

If you use the Evernote Clipper to clip a whole page then you can read it offline at any moment that you find suitable. I personally use Evernote clipper to improve productivity. Bearing in mind that there is so much information on the Internet, it's not surprising that people spend hours reading or watching stuff that was not in their plan. It's so easy to just wander from link to link like a dog following the trail of a rabbit.

That is when the Evernote Clipper comes in handy. Whenever you come across an article that you think might be useful in the future, just clip it and go back to the job at hand. You can always read the article later, at a more suitable time or when you really have to.

With Evernote, the limit is your imagination. For me it's just like a second brain. I usually try not to remember unnecessary things because I believe there are just too many important things going on in my life to waste time and memory remembering things I don't really have to. Here is a good example. One day my wife asked me if we could pass through a certain tree nursery because she thought that one of our garden trees, that we had recently bought, was dying.  I quickly checked to see if I had my phone or iPad with me to keep me busy while she was finding out how to treat the sick tree. Of course when we got to the tree nursery I remained in the car, listening to my favourite podcast and trying to use the time as productively as possible. (Like I always do. My wife doesn't see it that way, but that's another story).

After I had listened to one or two podcasts my wife came back and started explaining to me how we were supposed to treat the tree. Then she asked me to remember the instructions so that she could write them down when we got home. I didn't classify this information as being important. So as I said before I had no space in my memory for this information and I knew I would forget it before we even got home. So what did I do? I took out my phone, started Evernote audio note and I asked her to repeat the instructions. The recording was perfect and we could afford to relax and not worry that we would forget the instructions. All that was left to do was to give the recording a good tag and save it. That is just one example of a situation where Evernote came to my rescue.

Did I mention the fact that  Evernote is synchronised? If you save any note on your mobile phone, you immediately have access to it on all the other devices where you have the application installed, e.g. on your desktop computer, laptop or iPad. Would you believe that I actually used Evernote to plan this whole website starting from day one?
